MIKE'S COMMENTARY THIS WEEK'S SCHEDULE NEWS & NOTES BY SUE FOUST
MIKE'S COMMENTARY AND/OR BITS OF WISDOM We've enjoyed redneck jokes for years. (At least I have.) Let's take a reflective look at the core beliefs of a culture that values home, family, country and God. If I had to stand before a dozen terrorists who threaten my life, I'd choose a half dozen or so rednecks to back me up. Tire irons, squirrel guns and grit -- that's what rednecks are made of. I hope I am one of those. (My opinion is this would fit a number of people classifications - Patriots, Americans, Clinton Countians, Lycoming Countians, etc.) Most of the people I know and respect fit this mold. Ya'll know who ya' are... You might be a redneck if: It never occurred to you to be offended by the phrase, "One nation, under God." You might be a redneck if: You've never protested about seeing the 10 Commandments posted in public places. You might be a redneck if: You still say "Christmas" instead of "Winter Festival." You might be a redneck if: You bow your head when someone prays You might be a redneck if: You stand and place your hand over your heart when they play the National Anthem. You might be a redneck if: You treat Viet Nam vets with great respect, and always have. You might be a redneck if: You've never burned an American flag. You might be a redneck if: You know what you believe and you aren't afraid to say so, no matter who is listening. You might be a redneck if: You respect your elders and expect your kids to do the same. You might be a redneck if: You'd give your last dollar to a friend. ~ Janet Shields set this to me. ~

COWS: Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that our government can track a cow born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she sleeps in the state of Washington And they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give them all a cow.
CONSTITUTION: They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq. Why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it's worked for over 200 years and we're not using it anymore.
TEN COMMANDMENTS: The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments in a Courthouse? You cannot post "Thou Shalt Not Steal," "Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery" and "Thou Shall Not Lie" in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians! It creates a hostile work environment!
And Last but not least..... George CARLIN said it best about Martha Stewart .. "Boy, I feel a lot safer now that she's behind bars. O.J. Simpson and Kobe Bryant are still walking around; Osama Bin Laden too. But they take the one woman in America willing to cook, clean, and work in the yard, and haul her sorry butt off to jail."
"We all get heavier as we get older because, there's a lot more information in our heads." That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!
Investor Users Group To Continue at KCnet
Group participants will not be required to commit personal dollars as formal Investing Clubs do. We will use fictitious money as we learn investing on line. The idea is to share investing experiences and knowledge. Bring a friend.
This session will be free, then a $5.00 fee after that. Any additional group participation charges will be determined by costs incurred as direct overhead to maintain the sessions and will depend upon group decisions and requirements. See you Wednesday, July 13 @ 6:00 PM.

KCnet Users Group: (formerly know as "Senior Net Learners" most recently called "Advanced Class"). I wanted to call this class "The Abusers Group", but Sue would not hear of that. Attendees are persistent in their search for computer knowledge. They ask great questions and present interesting challenges. The cost for this class is $0.00 for members of KCnet and $2.00 per session for non KCnet members. There is no set format for the sessions. Occasionally we will take a specific subject and do a detailed study over a period of successive weeks. Don't be afraid to ask questions. The folks that have been attending for awhile are always happy for a review and in most cases new or better ways to do things will surface. Questions stimulate in-depth exploration with the usual result being an understanding of how and why. We welcome new attendees from the Advanced sessions and our forever growing KCnet membership. This is an advanced group and we cover a lot of territory. We are kind of free flowing. You never know what will transpire. It is not necessary for attendees to have their own computers but it sure helps with the learning curve. KCnet Advanced Class computer knowledge and Advanced Class computer skills are necessary.

THIS WEEK'S CLASS SCHEDULE

Leadership is Mike Foust and anyone that wants to jump into the fray. Good day this past Wednesday. We: Started with the usual cutesie, warm and fuzzy feeling sites. Reviewed the top 10 viruses for 2005. See the Sophus article posted on the Technical Page, Virus and Other Stinky Stuff, of this Newsletter. Of Note: The Sophus Anti-Virus program protects computers from 106,218 viruses. (I'm impresssed, but then I expect the Anti Virus I'm using to protect me from the same 106, 218 viruses.)
Explored a new, to us, extension for graphics- .eps. Learn about it at: http://www.prepressure.com/formats/eps/fileformat.htm
Talked about midi files opening in various browsers and emails. Mike showed various scripts for midis that can or cannot be seen with specific browsers.
Finally got to Netscape 8.0.1. We just started the subject and will continue to spend some time with it during the next couple of sessions. There were a few Netscape users on vacation last week. Mike will catch them up at break next week.
This class often becomes idea swapping and we learn by sharing our many experiences and I'll tell you all again, that really happened this week. Thanks to all that brought in suggestions, asked questions, and helped with explanations.

NEWS AND NOTES WITH SUE FOUST:
If you have items to donate, please bring them in, if possible. Give us all the information you can – when and where it was purchased, how it works or what a person could do with it, and your best guess value. We need to know what you think you would be able to sell it for, if you could find a buyer.
Of course, these guidelines apply to items you want us to sell for you, also. We cannot sell used clothing or broken, cracked or otherwise damaged items. There are exceptions, and I’m sure you will realize those times when an item, even though it is not perfect, still has a high value.
Another thing to keep in mind: Unless you have an item that will sell for more than $10, it’s better for you to sell it yourself or to donate it to KCnet or another non-profit organization. KCnet can give you a letter that is acceptable to IRS as a letter of donation.
If you bring in an item to sell, KCnet will charge a minimum of $5 listing fee. For that, we do a good bit of research to find other items similar and their selling prices. We take pictures, type up the description, and list the item. We send an invoice to the buyer and when payment is received, we send the item to the buyer. We accept checks, money orders, credit card payments and PayPal payments. Some of those payments incur fees – for instance, if a person pays through PayPal, there is a commission paid to PayPal.
After all is done, KCnet charges you 20% of the selling price. So, let’s do some math. A $10 sale: Subtract $5 listing fee and 20% commission and you receive $3. KCnet receives $7 to pay $2-$3 to eBay and PayPal. I’ve spent well over an hour, including a walk to the post office! And, our bottom line is about $4. So, it’s not that we will “look a gift horse in the mouth;” we will appreciate any donations you bring to KCnet that are marketable. But if you want us to sell something for you, please make sure its value is enough to make it worthwhile for all of us.
On another note, KCnet is considering an extension of the fiber network that runs through downtown Lock Haven. We would like to find businesses or buildings along our existing route that are interested in connecting to the high speed fiber optic line. The line currently runs from KCnet to the Pleasant Valley Medical Center on East Church Street, to Ross Library, Lock Haven Catholic School, Campus Village and out to the Hospital. It is in the alleys between East Water Street and East Main and between Main and East Church Streets, from the Mill Street to Jay Street. The monthly fee for a connection starts at $50. If you are interested, please call and ask for more information. We will also provide costs and references.
Until next week…
